La robe Judith / the Judith dress

Lorsqu'en mars dernier Compagnie M a sorti un patron de robe gratuit, je crois que nous avons été plusieurs à être séduites, non seulement par le cadeau, mais aussi par la robe elle même. Une jolie robe sans manches, avec un joli noeud papillon à l'encolure et un beau décolleté en V au dos..

Last March, Compagnie M  released a free dress pattern: what a gift! This sleeveless dress is lovely with its bow-tie on the neckline and its V back.

Pour moi, c'était l'occasion de coudre du coton, tissu que je n'achète plus tellement puisque j'utilise surtout du jersey pour mes enfants.

For me, this dress was also attractive because it was a pretext to sew cotton for once, instead of the usual knits I use for my kids.

J'avais un coupon de coton fleuri vintage de chez Bennytex  (acheté 4€06 pour un mètre!) assez grand et que je trouvais joli.

I had the perfect fabric: it was the right size and a real bargain, plus I found it pretty!

Motivation supplémentaire: Rconnection proposa un défi! Génial! Mon premier challenge couture!

I was not the only one seduced by this pattern Rconnection, had the idea to challenge the sewists of Instagram and bloggers to make it.

La couture de la robe, ne m'a pas posé de problème: sauf les petits décallages habituels entre la doublure et le tissu principal.... mais j'ai pu rattraper en décousant-recousant. J'ai aussi doublé la jupe car le coton était trop transparent.

I found the dress quite easy to sew, except for the usual shifts and creases between the lining and the proper fabric, but my seam-ripper helpt fixing those. I added lining for the skirt too because it was slightly see-through.

J'ai modifié le dos pour deux raisons: suppression des inconfortables boutons, et après essayage j'ai croisé davantage les parties du dos car la robe n'était pas assez ajustée: ma fille est assez fine et mesure 1m41 ; j'ai donc cousu la taille 10 ans.

I changed the back a bit: I did not put the buttons because I don't find them confortable when sitting down (my daughter will wear it at school and of course, she spends a lot of time on a chair); I had to cross the back pannels a little more than indicated in the instructions because there was too much room between the dress and my daughter's back.
